Werdegang / Ausbildung:
Originally from Edmonton, Canada, Nam Nguyen is a Vietnamese-Canadian artist living and working in Berlin. His large scale paintings aim to subvert our daily recognition of reality by creating a mysterious atmospheric continuum that resists simplistic signification. By methodically transforming his own photographs that document his urban meanderings into perplexing images of uncertain meaning, Nguyen's resultant paintings convey varying degrees of mis-recognition that synthesize art historical references, philosophical intentions and personal experience. Nguyen completed his BFA at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, and his MFA at NSCAD University in Halifax. He has participated in group exhibitions throughout Canada, Sydney, Australia, as well as Berlin. Shortlisted for the RBC painting competition in 2007, and the winner of the prestigious Joseph Plaskett for painting in 2008, he has received multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts.
